Another Door Closes

So it has become readily apparent that I do not belong in any of the industries I desire to be apart of quite yet. After getting severely shafted by Disney, outright ignored by Navigator, and put through the grind from Acromedia only to be informed they’re not going to go through with the next steps with me, there’s nothing special left in Kelowna for me, to keep me there.

So now I have to find employment within the minimum wage sector. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but it’s very disheartening. What exactly am I doing wrong? I have a resume crafted with gold containing absolutely relevant and solid history, education, and objectives. I have written numerous solid cover letters. I have shining recommendations by my Boss, Department Head, and one of my Co-Workers from PureSafety, pertaining relevant to anything IT, Programming, or Troubleshooting work possible with a desk job. These recommendations are publicly viewable at my LinkedIn profile. I have years of Flash Actionscript, PHP/MySQL, and Web Development under my belt.

So it begs the question: why am I not getting hired?

Because of this, I am now looking for employment with employers such as Subway, Wal-Mart, Video Stores of any kind, etc. But not in Kelowna. Nope, its been made readily apparent that I do not belong in the Kelowna Job Force anymore. So heres looking forward, because now (more than ever) I require a job. It’s no longer an option to not have one.

The XM8, The Problems, and Future Upgrades

So last Sunday i got the opportunity to try out the new XM8 that came in. Its from TSD Tactical, the site says its an “SM8″ but it says something totally different on the instruction manual. See, i don’t actually have the gun with me, and the reason is that I havent fully paid it off yet. $220 so far out of $320. However, Garet was nice enough to let me use it, the only condition that I can’t take it home with me until it’s fully paid off.

So heres the uppers and downers, and the future plans with the gun (after the jump)

TSD SM8 Assault Rifle, clone of HK XM8 Modular Assault Rifle

I got an interesting Email from Garet, the guy who runs the airsoft field I attend each sunday: my new gun is in.

The subject of this post is actually what the subject line was in the email.

This is the TSD SM8, a clone of the HK XM8 Modular Assault Rifle, honestly (and for reals) my favorite assault rifle that doesnt quite exist but does. Read more

Demo-lition! 02 – Mafia II

Vito and the Gang

The Demo opens up explaining to you that the level you are about to play is intended directly for the demo, and wont appear in the real game as displayed. And that’s ok, leave every amazing set piece for the full title, I can dig that. What i found especially mouthwatering however, is that the level we get to play, is the gameplay featured prominently in all of the gameplay videos to date! That’s right, you get to hunt down and finally murder that fat bastard you saw in the original trailer yourself!

I have been waiting for this game for a long time. Since I played the original on the O.G. Xbox to be exact. Sure the first ones console port was crap but I still had a good time pretending to be a gangster. The demo has been out since August 10th 2010, and its time to put it through the grinder!

Hey! Cool down, mister!

See, I’ve been trying to play games on my PC for a little bit. I’ve finally been bitten by the PC Gaming bug again, just like I should be. A problem emits however when my computer kept shutting itself down only moments after gameplay started, no matter the title. Be it any of the CODs, Crysis, not even Counter-Strike 1.6 stands the test of time. Even running benchmarking programs like 3DMark cant last long enough to generate a report. But its been BLISTERING hot outside, and this room has crappy air circulation so i always chalked it up to “its apparently too hot to play games on this thing”. Today is finally a cooler day and im still getting the same results. So i pop off the side of my system to make a startling discovery. My fan on the GPU is busted.

As the picture of the left suggests, I have an EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT 512MB PCIe video card. It was definitely a cheapy card at the time of purchase (late 2008 or early 2009) but at the time I had a job. If this happened way before, i would just run out and grab a new one. Being on E.I. eliminates that movement to me, unfortunately. So whats a guy to do? Send it away to EVGAs Limited Lifetime Warranty right? Wrong. See, im stupid. I went through the trouble of registering an EVGA Account apparently when i got the card, but i didn’t register the product. And you only have 30 days to register past the point of purchase. Yup. So i could TRY to repair it myself, but i honestly have no idea how well that will turn out.

The moral of the story is: register your products. It comes with more pros than cons. :(

Call of Duty: Black Ops?

Whats your opinion on Call of Duty: Black Ops?

In my gods to honest opinion, it actually looks like it could be a lot of fun. In much the same way Medal of Honor (reboot) is looking like its going to be a lot of fun. In much the same way Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was a lot of fun. And much in the same veins of why Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and its father Call of Duty Modern Warfare were fun.
Simply put, if your an FPS affectionado, your going to like Black Ops. And why? Because it delivers more of the same formula that has rocked our socks since COD’s general release: Epic, Frantic, and Fun set pieces. Actually this building block should be apart of most games, as that’s what keeps you hooked. But there are going to be nay-sayers “WHY NOT DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT?!” “OH GAWD ITS TREYARCH WTF HAPPENED TO INFINITY WARD BLAAARRRGHHG!” as these people tend to foam at the mouth before giving something a real chance.

Nostalgia Critic – Animaniacs Tribute

This is pretty damn awesome. I’m a regular viewer of Doug Walkers stuff over at http://www.thatguywiththeglasses.com and when I saw “Animaniacs Tribute” on the bill, I expected Doug to reminisce about specific sketches. What we got however, is a three part masterpiece with interviews by the shows creators (no… no… not Steven Spielberg, but the shows talent and muscle work).

Appearances by:

  • Tom Ruegger (Creator, Writer)
  • Sherri Stoner (Writer, Voice of Slappy Squirrel)
  • Paul Rugg (Writer, Voice of Mr Director and others)
  • John P. McCann (Writer)
  • Nathan Ruegger (Voice of Skippy Squirrel)

A Word on the act of “Driving”

An accident I came across on my way home from work

This is a special post from me. This has nothing to do with tech, games, or anything fun. This is serious.

Have you ever been in a car accident before? Do you know someone who has? How did that affect you and/or them?
Most importantly: What exactly happened, and who is the proprietary blame?

I’ve been in a car accident before, two actually. And I’ll get to that story a bit later. The important thing is, I also know family, extended family, friends, extended friends, and total strangers who have been in car accidents as well. To drive this further home: I have lost members of my family to car accidents. My biological father for instance. It seems almost everyone is going to be in a car accident at one point in their life, the percentage of likeliness is a frightening number. The percentage of injury is also scary, and the percentage of death is nothing to sneeze at.

The most common denominator to all of this is: someone was NOT being cautious. And this could be literally thousands of things! Impaired driving is the favorite blame, but I would like to throw equal (if not more) blame on non-impaired drivers who are simply being voluntarily reckless.

If you actually need examples of why I think this, I found this short 7 minute video today that’s been circulating around facebook for a while, its literally just a compilation of both acted out and real surveillance captured accidents of almost every flavor (and wouldn’t you know it, not one due to drunk or impaired driving). These are people being reckless, and the consequences (even on the scripted sequences) are most certainly real: (hit Read More to view)
