Whats your opinion on Call of Duty: Black Ops?

In my gods to honest opinion, it actually looks like it could be a lot of fun. In much the same way Medal of Honor (reboot) is looking like its going to be a lot of fun. In much the same way Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was a lot of fun. And much in the same veins of why Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and its father Call of Duty Modern Warfare were fun.
Simply put, if your an FPS affectionado, your going to like Black Ops. And why? Because it delivers more of the same formula that has rocked our socks since COD’s general release: Epic, Frantic, and Fun set pieces. Actually this building block should be apart of most games, as that’s what keeps you hooked. But there are going to be nay-sayers “WHY NOT DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT?!” “OH GAWD ITS TREYARCH WTF HAPPENED TO INFINITY WARD BLAAARRRGHHG!” as these people tend to foam at the mouth before giving something a real chance.

Im not going to lie, i bought World at War (TreyArchs other endeavor using IWs COD4 engine) for the Nazi Zombie mode, and I’ve rarely even played that. The single player, while fun, just didnt quite match up to the scripted polish that Infinity Ward was so used to delivering. I cant give a proper rating as I’ve never given it its fair chance, but from what I see, theres alot of happy World at War players, but it seems mostly for the Nazi Zombie mode. So this “Black Ops” thing is a bit of a coin toss. It looks like TreyArch is desperately trying to follow in Infinity Wards shoes, and because the main brains and muscle behind Infinity Ward have either been fired or quit, its going to be an uphill battle for the big T.

TreyArch is most certainly not my favorite company in the world either. In fact they’ve been responsible for the lackluster Spider-Man series of games for close to a decade now, which has slowly eaten away at my patience. Theyve also been responsible for the worst that call of duty has ever had to offer (COD Big Red One for example, yuck). So the big question is: Will Black Ops offer enough balance, innovation, and fun to drive away the audience from the previous games in the legacy? And will it be enough to drive away audiences from other big named franchises as well? (Battlefield, Counter-Strike, etc)

To me, its a toss up. Sure i think it’ll be good enough to drive a sizable audience, but what it’ll most likely come to is, if you didn’t like Call of Duty in its past 3 iterations (MW, WaW, MW2) i don’t think this one is going to change your mind. At the same time, if your a COD fan, i think its going to offer a good enough experience to enforce each one of those fans to buy a copy somewhere and somehow. Will there be a sizable online community? I think so, I mean you can only be hit by so many Martys and AC-130′s and go through so many prestige modes before you get too tired of it, and want something a bit more fresh.
